We’re Hiring: Artistic Director
Join Mid America Freedom Band and help lead the next chapter of Kansas City’s most vibrant LGBTQ+ and ally musical community.
Since our founding in 2002 with just four musicians, Mid America Freedom Band has grown into a 80+ member organization encompassing multiple performing ensembles. We've made our mark not only in Kansas City, but also nationally—receiving honors such as the Innovative Programming Award from Pride Bands Alliance and appearing as featured guest ensembles at conferences across the country.
We’re now seeking an Artistic Director to guide our musical vision and help shape inclusive, bold, and engaging concert experiences for both musicians and audiences. This is a unique opportunity to step into a leadership role with a community-driven, mission-focused organization that blends performance with pride and advocacy.

We have:
Four major concerts per season, including themed and holiday programs

We’re looking for someone who:
Has strong conducting skills and experience leading community concert bands
Demonstrates creative programming instincts and commitment to diversity in music
Is a collaborative leader who values community engagement as much as musical excellence
Possesses knowledge of concert band repertoire, rehearsal techniques, and inclusive ensemble leadership
Can effectively manage time and motivate musicians of various skill levels
Preferred Qualifications:

5+ years leading community ensembles welcomed in lieu of a degree
