Announcing MAFB's 20th Season
Twenty years of growth, milestones, and music making is certainly something to celebrate! Mid America Freedom Band continues to showcase the most diverse array of composers writing for concert band. With emphasis on Missouri and Midwestern composers this season, MAFB also pulls from its extensive library of commissioned works to give them a second hearing. This season culminates in a Spring Concert held at the beautifully remodeled Folly Theater for a program that is not to be missed.

MAFB highlights three exciting young compositional voices to come out of Missouri on this concert with music by Richard Joey Carter, Kristen Hirlinger, and Matthew Manning. These works are paired with the father of modern concert band music, Missouri’s own Claude T. Smith’s Incidental Suite. Jason Gerraughty’s burn it down. salt the earth and Evan Williams’ love words give us the “Bitter” of the concert’s title. Smith and Tom Davoren’s award winning “Midwestern Suite” bring the “Suite” and Ida Gotkovsky’s rapturous Joyeuse Symphonie offers us our “Symphony.”
